About Winkler Warehouses

Historic warehouses turned upscale living

Originally built in 1920 for Roszell’s Dairy, Winkler Lofts was purchased by Larry Winkler for his wholesale meat business, Winkler Meats. Larry sold Winkler Meats and after seeing the growing trend in renovated warehouses in Chicago, New York, and other metropolitan areas, had a vision to turn his warehouse into an urban sanctuary. Combining historical aesthetics of exposed brick, hardwood floors, and steel casement windows with new appliances, electrical and HVAC, each loft apartment reflects the apex of industrial urban design, with the modern amenities. Each unit is unique in their layout, with no apartment exactly like another.

Historic Peoria

The Warehouse & Riverfront Districts

Peoria’s Warehouse and Riverfront Districts have been a center of commerce and urban activity since the first Europeans populated the Peoria area in the mid-1600s. As the area grew, the Districts became the center of business and industry, offering merchants and industrialists easy access to water and rail transportation. Warehouses, breweries, food processors and commercial distributors gave the area its unique flavor. Revitalization of the Districts began in the late mid 1990’s bringing restaurants, culture, entertainment and residential living. Alive with concerts, festivals, museums, a historic paddleboat, and a top-notch weekly farmers market, today’s Riverfront and Warehouse Districts are favorite destinations for both residents and visitors.
